Vehicle drives away with gas pump still attached, ripping it from ground in Highspire

Firefighters responded to a "rare" call on Tuesday after a vehicle drove off from a Highspire gas station with the fuel pump still inside the vehicle.

Citizen's Fire Company #1 of Highspire was dispatched around 2:55 p.m. to the United gas station on Second Street after receiving reports of a small fuel spill.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find the entire fuel pump station "sheered off," the fire company said.

Crews were able to shut off the gas and electric, and Highspire police were on scene to speak with those involved in the incident.

"This definitely ranks up there among one of the more rare and potentially dangerous incidents that we have encountered in recent years," Citizen's Fire Company wrote in the Facebook post.

Firefighters were on scene of the fuel spill for a little over an hour.
