HRC announced ahead of the SEMA show that it plans to offer performance parts for both Honda and Acuras for street, track, and off-road driving.
This summer at Monterey Car Week, Acura unveiled the Integra Type S HRC Prototype, adding an array of performance-focused parts to the compact sports car to make it more capable on the track. At the time, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) said it was considering offering these upgrades to customers. Now, ahead of the SEMA auto show in Las Vegas next week, HRC has announced it will launch a new line of performance parts for both Honda and Acura vehicles.
The decision to move ahead with the new business venture came as a result of positive feedback from the Integra Type S HRC show car, Honda said. Few details were provided about what types of parts we can expect to see, but HRC did say that the parts will be designed for street, track, and off-road driving.
Honda Racing Corporation, formerly known as Honda Performance Development (HPD), is also responsible for Honda and Acura's motorsports endeavors, including its participation in Formula 1, IMSA endurance racing, and Baja off-road competition. The company said its experience in motorsports will inform the performance parts that will be sold to customers.
The first prototype parts are expected to be ready at some point next year, HRC said. The Integra Type S HRC carried a number of upgrades that could be offered when the performance parts catalog comes online. The prototype featured aerodynamic improvements like an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing, and lightweight parts such as a carbon-fiber hood and a carbon-fiber shelf in place of the rear seats, making it easier to lug spare wheels and tires to a track day.
The cabin also gained fixed-back Recaro bucket seats. Under the hood, Honda added a larger intercooler, twin oil coolers, and a new exhaust system, and the prototype also received a different suspension, including new springs and dampers. Forged wheels, beefier brakes, and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires were also included.
It's unclear how many of these parts will be offered when HRC opens its order books, but the Integra Type S HRC shows promise for the new venture. Honda also showed a Pilot HRC Prototype ahead of the SEMA show, which suggests the type of off-roading equipment that could be offered for the brand's SUVs and the Ridgeline truck.
