Cummins X15 fuel pump issue extends to Paccar trucks | Overdrive

Oct 29, 2024Oct 29, 2024

Trucking news and briefs for Monday, Oct. 28, 2024:

Following a recall by Cummins of more than 9,000 X15 diesel engines, Paccar is recalling more than 5,600 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks with the affected engines, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents.

The recall stems from certain fuel pump barrels in the engines that can fracture and cause a fuel leak.

Paccar’s recall includes 5,690 model year 2025 Kenworth C500, T680, T800, T880, W900 and W990 units; and MY 2025 Peterbilt 567, 579, and 589 trucks -- all equipped with the Cummins X15.

Dealers will replace the fuel pump barrels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 22. Owners may contact Kenworth's customer service at 425-828-5888 with recall number 24KWH and Peterbilt's customer service at 940-591-4220 with recall number 24PBH. NHTSA’s recall number is 24V-789.

Paccar’s recall joins similar recalls from International and Daimler Trucks, which recalled 1,086 and 588 trucks, respectively, with affected Cummins X15 engines.

Mack Trucks is recalling approximately 49 model year 2019-2025 GR and 2018 GU Granite trucks equipped with non-DOT-tested tires.

The recall states that the tires may not have been DOT tested and confirmed to be sufficient for the vehicles. As such, the trucks fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires - Other Than Passenger Cars."

Dealers will inspect and replace the tires as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 10. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 800-866-1177 with recall number SC0471. NHTSA’s recall number is 24V-773.

The Wichita travel stop, located off I-135 at 1504 E. 21st St., is one of Love’s largest stores to date and helps meet a big need for truck parking and other pro driver services in the Wichita metro area, the company said. This location adds 122 truck parking spaces (99 full size and 23 bobtail) and a Speedco truck maintenance shop with truck wash services, set to open next month. In addition to Love’s Fresh Kitchen with food offerings prepared daily, this travel stop includes an Arby’s and Dunkin’ Donuts.

The Hattiesburg travel stop off I-59 and Highway 98 at 283 Ira Hudson Rd. adds 84 truck parking spaces, and like the Wichita location, adds pro driver services to an area previously without a national travel stop presence. Love’s food offerings in Hattiesburg include Love’s Fresh Kitchen and an Arby’s restaurant.
